REC time in jail came twice a week. It was up to the discretion of the DO's on *when* but the days were static. It was optional for inmates. They take everyone that wants to go from the house, and bring them to a little caged area where you can walk around in big circles. The DO's do not like to babysit the inmates, so they would use tricks like calling for REC at 6:00am. In the winter months even in AZ, it is cold outside at that hour, and remember we are only wearing short sleeve scrubs and shower shoes. They would usually call it early like this as they knew no one would want to go.
Today I am grateful that I can go outside whenever I want, and do not have to be babysat by a DO. I'm grateful that I can wear long sleeves outside if I'm cold, and real shoes. I'm grateful that REC time doesn't have to be inside a fence walking around in big circles. It can literally be whatever I choose. I'm grateful to be free. I'm grateful that I can "have REC time" in the warm AZ sun in the afternoon if I want.
