MOSAIC Yoga Night

Updated: May 31, 2019

I was offered early release on my jail sentence upon completion of MOSAIC, which is a 7 week in custody substance abuse treatment program. I was super stoked when I was pulled for my intake assessment as starting that particular mosaic class (#16) would end up getting me out over 100 days early. So the last bit of time I spend incarcerated was in the N dorm at Estrella jail.

Being in mosaic came with lots of perks including the ability to walk outside whenever we wanted, 2 big flat screen tvs with full reign cable lineups, cleaner conditions, nicer DOs, but one of the best perks was the Tuesday night yoga class.

Dr. Julian Wyatt and his team from the Prison Yoga Project - Phoenix would come in every Tuesday night from 7-9pm religiously and teach us. They taught the FULL yoga curriculum including breathing, meditation, living a balanced life, acceptance, making the best out of a not so great situation, and did not limit the class to just asanas/poses. I've taken fancy expensive yoga classes before and this was hands down a million times better as far as quality and FULL content. Best of all, they taught us all free of charge.

I can't express how grateful I am for these people and what they did for me and continue to do for others. I practice at the very least the breathing and meditation tools I learned from them EVERY day. I'm slowly easing back into the Asanas as my arm fracture heals.
