My veyo driver today told me he is a retired pilot. I then asked him if he had any cool stories or anything and he said, "yeah, I do actually" and proceeded to tell me a story about a totally normal landing of a private jet where all of a sudden both sets of brakes went out and the plane started accellerating to "near flying speed" and he went off the runway and had to strategically sever the wings between two parking lot poles off of 24th St in order to stop the plane and not spin. He and his 8 passengers exited the plane unscratched and just as they got to safety the plane exploded. He nonchalantly said "I wrote a book about it" so I googled it to do a little fact checking. Turns out this is still considered the worst accident at sky harbor airport. The book is called Miracle on 24th Street.
The whole time he was telling me this story, I was considering it in relation to recovery. If I don't continually keep track of my brakes and accellerating handle, they could get stuck and things could literally explode at any moment. Even when on the outside, things seem okay just as his private jet had passed inspection, it's all about what's actually happening on the inside.
Today I'm grateful to be alive, and for the interesting people I meet. I'm grateful for my recovery and for the program that helps me keep my brakes and accellerating equipment in check.
