Monday night I couldn't sleep at all. I was writhing in tooth pain and could not stand to sit still (haha?) My house manager took me to the 24 hour Walmart at 2am and I got some orajel and clove oil. Those things may have had a 5 second placebo effect and I knew I was dealing with something more serious. By tuesday morning things had gotten worse. I was able to call around to a few places to try and get an appointment but didn't have any luck. I was literally breaking down from the pain and had to call my mom for help. She found me a place up the street that would take me in between their packed schedule that afternoon and I was happy about that. That office called me back and said they had to cancel and apologized, so I went online and found an emergency dental website that was able to dispatch me an appointment at a place called jawman in Paradise Valley. My appointment was at 2:30 (pun? Not funny) and I was in so much pain I figured I'd just go sit in their office and demand to be seen as soon as possible. I showed up and was thankfully seen a little early. Evidently a tooth I had a root canal on about 10 years ago had a piece of the metal file tool they use to do the endodontic procedure broken off and left right at the root of my tooth (saw it on the x Ray) which eventually (way eventually) caused a severe infection that was well on it's way into my bones. The dentist was like "ahh yah no wonder you're in so much pain". They started me on antibiotics within 5 minutes (out of their in house supply) and got me scheduled for a procedure which I had done today. I started feeling better in about 3-4 hours. Today, they went in through the top of my gums, leaving my root canal and crown entirely intact and were able to dislodge and remove the metal file piece from the top side of it, and had to drill out a bunch of infected bone and do 2 bone grafts. I feel much better.
Today I am grateful for "the jawman" and his crew, for my mom who always comes to the rescue, for high dose clyndimycin and how fast it works, for modern dental procedures, and for the human bodys ability to heal. I'm also grateful for my sponsor who jumped into action, came and picked me up at work so I didn't have to ride my bike home and took me to an awesome meeting.
