Taking away the drugs, an extremely effective yet only temporary way to not have to feel a certain way can leave us addicts miserable. Because now we have to deal with life and don't have our medicine and quick fix. I've been learning a very formulaic technique to address this called the ABCs. We have activating events, beliefs that follow, then our emotions (consequences) get locked in based on those beliefs. The insane part is those Bs are usually not factual. There are two techniques to challenge the beliefs which result in better outcomes for the emotions/C. Rational disputation and avoiding absolutistic thinking. They've been working for me. The way to better emotional outcomes and stability is to change the way we think.
Today I'm grateful for having a strategy to use in literally any situation throughout the day that can bring peace and lower anger, anxiety and overall distress.
